Erik Friedlander’s new trio, Sentinel, is a garage band for 2020. The group’s live feeling and at times raucous new album, “Sentinel,” mines the stylings of the 1970's electric guitar virtuosi that provided the soundtrack to Friedlander’s teenage years.

“The aching lyricism and gripping cadences of the cello combine with the off-center rebelliousness of the guitar and the rhythmic pulsation of the drums to deliver structurally simple and technically superb musical moments. The quality of sound is equally remarkable.” – Jazz Trail

“As soon as you think it’s a guitar album, you start paying attention to the percussive elements; as soon as you remember it’s experimental cello work, you’re back to guitar rock. The trio’s engagement with the music and with each other comes through, the playful innovation guiding each piece into a multifaceted whole.” – Dusted Magazine

“Incisors, canines, and molars masticate in concert on Sentinel with decidedly amenable results.” – In On the Corner
