Week at The Stone June 7th: John Zorn's Bagatelles and Claws & Wings

  • The Stone Avenue C & E 2nd Street New York, NY 10009 USA (map)

8pm - John Zorn’s Bagatelles

Mike Nicolas, cello

Erik Friedlander, cello

This is one of the most fun new projects I'm a part of!  Come and hear to cellists raise the roof at The Stone.

From March to May 2015 John Zorn wrote 300 new tunes collected in a book of music called The Bagatelles. Like the Masada book (only more atonal) the compositions are meant to be interpreted by a wide range of musicians. Tonight two great cellists take up the challenge.

10pm - Claws & Wings

Sylvie Courvoisier, Piano

Ikue Mori, Electronics

Erik Friedlander, cello

Claws & Wings is written in memory of Erik’s late wife. He, along with his daughter, were left to ponder how to make sense of the loss, and how to move on. The music strongly resonates with Erik’s mindset at the time: meditating on a life lost, regaining his balance, and then moving forward with optimism. Claws & Wings is dedicated to this ongoing process
