Erik Friedlander celebrates ‘OSCALYPSO’ & ‘ILLUMINATIONS’ with Boston Show at The LilyPad show October 15, 8p.
The show features Friedlander performing solo and in trio.
Cellist Erik Friedlander will perform from two cds both released in 2015. Erik will play his Illuminations Suite for Solo Cello, a project inspired by ancient illuminated texts in Arabic, Latin and Hebrew Erik encountered at the Jewish Museum in New York City. Then, joined by bassist Trevor Dunn and drummer Michael Sarin, Friedlander will perform Oscalypso, a new CD and a tribute to the great bassist and cellist Oscar Pettiford. “When I look to history for a role model, it’s Pettiford. ” says Friedlander, “Pettiford played the cello with such swing and melody. He was the first to lead a band from behind the cello. And he wrote original tunes, some of which are now classics. Pettiford had a special feel for the instrument — he even named his son Cello! He’s always been a hero of mine.” The music will start at 8p, join us!
