Broken Shadows™ Radio Nights

The lights come up on the crowded stage of New York's preeminent new music venue revealing not the latest cutting edge band, but actors, musicians and sound effects artists together creating original live radio drama.

Friedlander and his group of musicians carefully underscore the opening monologue as the actors, scripts in hand, approach their microphones on cue. Sound effects artist Roy Harter slams shut the mini door he created for the project and then grabs two big hiking boots with his hands and trudges through a box of cat litter--if you shut your eyes you can descend into the magic of radio; leave them open and you're in the midst of truly multimedia event crackling with split-second timing and spontaneous fun.

That summer he presented the first production, "A Bledbury Tale" by Michael Greenberg. 6 shows, 1 every two weeks, told the story of reporter Jep Hurley who dives into uncharted water when he starts writing about crimes that he himself commits; and then finds to his surprise that the woman who spurned him has fallen in love with his invention. "A Bledbury Tale" was brought to life by 5 actors, 5 musicians, a sound technician, a recording engineer & a sound effects artists who joined forces on the Lower East Side at Tonic a converted Kosher winery that now presents the latest in avant garde, creative & experimental performance.
